One may want to learn Arabic can be for many reasons, be it travel, work, relationships, religious reasons, or maybe enjoying the challenge of learning a new language. If you want to learn the Arabic language, there are a few things you should know that can make your efforts to learn much easier.
Choose a Dialect to Focus On
The first thing you should do is choose which dialect you want to know. Speaking in Moroccan dialect is not going to help much if one is travelling to Lebanon, because the accents are so different that they will hardly understand. So choose a dialect that suits your circumstances and reasons why you are learning. If you want to learn to speak in a tongue that is universal and understood anywhere you go in the Arab world, the best choice would be modern standard Arabic.
Immerse Yourself
The key to learning Arabic or any other language lies in immersing oneself in an environment where the language is spoken, and constantly practicing and revising what has been learned. Make friends who have knowledge of the Arabic language, and speak to them in Arabic as often as possible. If you don't know the meaning of a word or sentence, ask them and most likely they will be happy to help you. Watch movies in Arabic with English subtitles, and listen to Arabic radio stations. Read Arabic books with English translations. Quranic texts and books citing Prophetic narrations, proverbs and poetry are an excellent choice, as they can help you greatly to master the language.
