With all of the confidential personal information stored on laptop computers the traditional methods of security are not sufficient to keep it out of the hands of potential thieves. On top of the loss of the computer itself and any intangibles like personal pictures and documents, a stolen laptop could lead to hundreds or even thousands of dollars of fraudulent charges being made in the owner’s name.
A biometric fingerprint scanner could render the laptop completely useless to the thief and may even deter the theft in the first place.
