The French capital is always a pleasure to visit - at any time of year - but exchange rates being what they are, Parisian prices seem very high at the moment. So now is the time to seek out those bargains which are to be had if only you know how to find them!

Flea Markets (Marches aux Puces)

There are three main flea markets on the outskirts of Paris, all accessible from metro stations of the same name. Most tourists know about the Porte de Clignancourt, which is very busy. The Porte de Vanves is as good if not better, for bric a brac and vintage clothes of all kinds, and slightly less crowded. Perhaps best is the Marche Paul Bert at 96 rue des Rosiers Saint-Ouen. This market has interesting specialist shops including Veronique Lyon, Allee 6 stand 89 for vintage American items from the 50s to the 70s; and Alexandre Guillemain, Allee 6 stand 87 for Italian and French second-hand furniture.
